What to pack

  • Maui is very casual; shorts, t-shirts and sandals are perfectly acceptable in most restaurants and a casual dress or aloha shirt with khakis is appropriate even in fine dining restaurants. Aloha wear will be appropriate everywhere during your Maui vacation, so if you are planning to buy an aloha shirt or muumuu, you will fit right in.
  • Bring t-shirts, shorts, bathing suits and a cover up to throw on at the beach when you've had enough sun for the day, as well as tennis shoes and rubber water shoes or flip-flops (slippers). If you will be hiking or horseback riding, be sure to bring suitable footwear. It's always a good idea to bring a windbreaker, a sweater, or a light jacket as the evening can sometimes get breezy.
  • Remember the tropical sun can be harsh, so be sure to pack strong sunscreen, a hat and a good pair of sunglasses. If you plan to view the sunrise from the top of Haleakala Crater, temperature at the 10,000 foot elevation can reach 40°F (4°C), so be sure to bring a warm jacket.
